LCSW, RYT 200, 500 Hour in progress
My yoga journey began in 2012, when—after 15 years—I started transitioning out of the dance world and into strength training. I discovered yoga at my local gym and initially used it as a supplement to weightlifting because I hated stretching! But it quickly became a regular part of my life. By 2016, I had completed my first 200-hour teacher training and worked as a full-time yoga teacher for four years before the pandemic hit and I began graduate school. Today, my classes are informed by both formal training in Trauma-Informed Yoga, Somatic Therapy, Energy Work, and Dance, as well as my informal knowings and relationships with nature, energy, and ancestral spiritual practices. I'm a queer, Afro-Indigenous person, and all of my lineages and ancestors have gifted me a fire in my heart to challenge settler-colonial social “norms.”
I believe yoga should be both revered and accessible. The spiritual element of this practice is not meant to disconnect or numb us from the world, but rather to connect us more deeply to our shared humanity—helping us become more active participants in our lives and in the world, and to create lasting, meaningful social change in whatever ways we are individually called. In my asana classes, you can expect a balance of challenge and choice, juicy opportunities to open, frequent reminders of your ability to choose and change your mind, and breath-led movement set to sensual playlists—all designed to support you in setting down your thinking brain and accessing your deeper knowing.
